NYS Gun Violence Continues Downward Trend

Gun violence for the first four months of this year is trending down for New York's small cities as well as the big ones.

Governor Kathy Hochul's office has reported shooting incidents in cities from Amherst to Watertown dropped by 17 percent, and the number of people shot dropped by 19 percent on average.

These are communities taking part in the state's GIVE program, helping police agencies use data-driven approaches to apply their manpower where it will make the most difference.

Statewide, small city shooting incidents dropped by 64 percent over the same period of 2025.

That's 324 incidents down to 116.
