Person Rescued After Plunge over High Falls

Someone went over the High Falls Sunday -- and lived.

The Coast Guard confirms a person rescued from an island near the Pont de Rennes bridge ended up there after entering High Falls.

Rochester firefighters say the rescue turned dangerous-strong currents pulled three firefighters into the water before all made it safely back to shore.

A Coast Guard helicopter quickly hoisted the individual to safety.

No injuries were reported.

Informally, there were reports of someone jumping into the Genesee River just before the rescue.

The last person to survive a trip over the falls was daredevil Sam Patch, who lived through an 1829 attempt, only to die later on a repeat of the stunt.
