Rochester Officials Move to Restore PAB's Investigatory Powers

The City of Rochester is making another effort to restore investigatory powers to its Police Accountability Board.

A motion has been filed by the Rochester City Council under a recent court decision from the Appellate Division, the mid-level state appeals court.

If the court approves, it would allow the city to challenge the earlier court ruling that stripped the PAB of its ability to independently investigate cases of alleged police misconduct.

Council will also take up legislation at this month's meeting to hire outside legal counsel who would seek leave to appeal to the Court of Appeals, New York's highest court.
