Nicholas Kieffer, who was acquitted in October of murder, manslaughter, and related charges, claims he was the target of malicious prosecution and defamation.
His attorneys argue the case was driven by what they describe as the political agendas of Governor Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James.
Seven other officers pleaded guilty in connection with the December 2024 assault at Marcy Correctional Facility.
One of them, David Walters, is currently appealing his plea.
Another officer charged in the case, Matthew Galliher, was also found not guilty.
