Report: Charlotte Beach 2nd-Worst in NYS for Fecal Contamination

An analysis by a statewide environmental group shows Charlotte Beach was second in the state last summer for fecal contamination.

The group Environment New York Research and Policy Center based the rankings on samples taken by health departments along the Great Lakes and Atlantic beaches.

Executive Director David Masur tells WHAM 1180 that a lot of the problem could be fixed with money to help sewage plants that back up during heavy rains:

The report says all Rochester-area beaches were potentially unsafe for swimming on at least one day of the 2024 season.
