UPDATE: Suspect Named in Homicide, Shot Fired at RPD Officer

UPDATE: Rochester police have charged a 35-year-old Rochester man with two counts of second degree murder, robbery and a count of attempted murder of a police officer after Sunday's shooting incidents.

Police Chief David Smith says Edison Estramera-Cohen shot and killed David Vasquez behind a known drug house on Oscar Street about 6:00 Sunday morning, before taking off on a bicycle.

The chief credits timely information from three different citizens with leading to Estramera-Cohen's rapid capture.

Estramera-Cohen ran from the police and was tackled, leading him to fire a gunshot that narrowly missed hitting an officer in the head.

As he continued to raise his weapon, the chief says another officer shot Estramera-Cohen three times.

He remains in the hospital in stable condition.

Police say he may face additional charges.

The chief and Mayor Malik Evans say there's another issue: Estramera-Cohen was pending sentencing on drug charges and should not have been on the streets....

Mayor Evans says this crime would never have happened if Estramera-Cohen was in jail as he should have been.
