President Donald Trump warned that he could face impeachment if Republicans do not retain control of Congress in the upcoming midterm elections. Speaking at a House Republican policy retreat on Tuesday (January 6), Trump emphasized the importance of winning the midterms, stating, "You got to win the midterms, because if we don’t win the midterms, it’s just going to be — I mean, they’ll find a reason to impeach me."

The midterm elections, scheduled for November, will determine control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. All 435 House seats and 33 Senate positions are up for grabs. Trump's party currently holds a slim majority in the House, making the elections crucial for maintaining Republican influence in Congress.

Trump has been actively encouraging Republican-controlled states to pass new congressional district maps that favor his party, a practice known as gerrymandering. However, Democrats have also engaged in similar strategies in states like California.

Trump's approval rating hovers between 42 and 45 percent, and recent events, such as the unpopular US military action in Venezuela, could impact voter sentiment. Despite these challenges, Trump remains optimistic about the Republican Party's chances, predicting an "epic" victory in the midterms.

The president has been impeached twice before, once in 2019 for alleged abuse of power and again in 2021 for inciting an insurrection. He was acquitted by the Senate on both occasions. As the midterms approach, the potential for another impeachment looms if Democrats gain control of Congress.
