A South Carolina jury has ruled that Raymond Moody must pay the mother of Brittannee Drexel $700 million after admitting to raping and murdering the 17-year-old in 2009.
Moody is already serving a life sentence, after pleading guilty in 2022 to raping and killing Drexel on a Spring Break trip to Myrtle Beach.
Drexel's mother, Dawn Conley, sued for emotional distress in civil court.
The jury took only a few hours Tuesday to award her $200 million in compensation, then came back under 2 hours later to add on $500 million in punitive damages
