Man Sentenced for Assaulting Rochester Police Officer

A man who fought with a police officer has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision.

Jamie James pled guilty to assault and weapons charges resulting from the fight in 2023.

Police said they saw a truck leaving the scene of a gunshot report with its lights off and gave chase.

The truck crashed into a pole on Hemple Street and James tried to run away.

A pursuing officer caught up with James in a back yard.

James punched the officer repeatedly in the head and tried to grab his gun.

The officer tried to hit James with his Taser, and then shot him when that failed.

James was arraigned from his hospital bed.
