RPD: Woman Found Dead on Orange St. Mauled by Pit Bull

UPDATE: Rochester police say a 92-year-old woman found dead last night at a home on Orange Street had been mauled by the family's pit bull.

Police say they don't know yet if Velma Leake died as a result of the mauling or if it happened after she died of other causes.

The Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office is working with the Police Major Crimes Section to figure that out.

Police say a resident of the home had been sleeping upstairs, woke up, and went downstairs to find the woman dead.

The dog is being held at the Rochester Animal Services Shelter, pending further investigation.
