AG Releases Bodycam of Fatal Steuben County Standoff

The state Attorney General's Office has put out bodycam footage of a fatal standoff last month in Steuben County.

Sheriff James Allard says deputies went to check on 50-year-old Allen Hoad the Second in the Town of Cameron after family members grew concerned about him.

Hoad met the deputies outside his house, began yelling at them, and fired at their patrol cars with a shotgun, hitting both of them.

Neither deputy was hit.

A SWAT team and negotiators tried to convince Hoad to give up after about a 12-hour standoff.

During that time he made a number of terroristic threats and said he wanted to kill people.

Hoad then got into his car with a firearm and drove to another home, but couldn't get in.

He then crashed his car into a patrol car.

Deputies and police officers then fired at Hoad who continued to fight with them although wounded.

He was taken into custody and brought to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
