Rochester Man Killed Fall While Hiking in Colorado Identified

UPDATE: The Rochester man killed while hiking in Colorado has been identified.

The San Miguel County Sheriff's Office says 53-year-old Herbert Wise was hiking the Rock of Ages Trail in Wilson Peak, when he fell at least 300 feet.

He suffered a head injury, and was dead when rescuers found him after a 4-hour mission.

Wise was described as an experienced climber.

He was also a kitchen volunteer with the House of Mercy.

An unidentified Rochester man has died while hiking in Colorado.

The San Miguel County Sheriff's Office says the 53-year-old was hiking the Rock of Ages trail, when he fell at least 300 feet.

He suffered a head injury, and was dead when rescuers found him about 4 hours later.

His body has been taken to the county coroner's office.
