9 Arrested in Area Stolen Car Detail

A hectic pair of car chases involving multiple police agencies and at least three stolen cars led to nine felony arrests yesterday and the recovery of eight stolen vehicles.

It happened yesterday afternoon during a multi-agency task force operation looking for stolen cars.

An Ogden police investigator spotted a Hyundai SUV that had been stolen from Parma earlier in the day.

The SUV was parked on Smith Street, and as police approached the driver woke up and tried to get away, backing into a Greece patrol car and nearly running down a Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy in the process.

That driver bailed out near the Campbell Street R-Center in the city and was caught by a K-9 officer and dog.

The two people in the rear of the car were both wanted on felony warrants.

Two men and a woman in their 30s were arrested and went to jail.

During that chase, an officer noticed a second stolen car pass them on Jay Street. Police gave chase, only to have the driver of the fleeing car try to run a sheriff's car off the road.

The three people in that car crashed it.

The driver of that car was picked up by the people in the fleeing Hyundai and all three were caught by police.

Two of those three were juveniles and one was in their early 20s.

Later in the evening, police in the detail chased two other stolen cars, one of which crashed.

Two juveniles were arrested in each case, with all going to the Children's Detention Center.

Police are calling the entire operation a great success.
