The U.S. Senate has confirmed Monroe County Judge Meredith Anne Vacca's appointment to the U.S. District Court bench for Western New York.
Vacca is Korean-American, and is the first woman of color on the bench for the Western District.
Her confirmation equalizes the number of men and women serving as judges for the district.
Senator Schumer recommended her nomination.
Vacca grew up in Greece and is a former prosecutor.
Since last year, she has been an Acting state Supreme Court Justice.
