Rochester Teacher Wins Lawsuit Over Allegedly Racist Lesson

A Rochester teacher who was accused of teaching a racist history lesson has won his lawsuit against the activist group Save Rochester-Black Lives Matter.

School of the Arts teacher Patrick Rausch, who is white, was accused in a social media campaign of having Black students pick cotton.

He said the accusers misrepresented his lesson, which was a discussion of the invention of the cotton gin and included a demonstration of the difficulty of picking seeds from cotton by hand.

Rausch said it was voluntary for students to touch the cotton, and said he was the victim of "inflammatory and untrue statements."

Save Rochester-Black Lives Matter never responded to the lawsuit, and Rausch was granted a default judgment.
