Geneva is again looking for a new police chief.

Matthew Colton has resigned, after eight months as chief, and 16 years with the department.

He had been placed on paid leave in January over a personnel matter.

While the details have not been released, the Finger Lakes Times reported in March that at least one officer had filed a complaint against Colton.

Retired chief Michael Passalacqua will serve as interim chief while the city looks for Colton's successor.

City Manager Amie Hendrix says the search will begin right away and people considered for the chief's job last year could be eligible again.
