Monroe County Public Health Commissioner Dr. Michael Mendoza has resigned.

County Executive Adam Bello's predecessor, Cheryl DiNolfo, appointed Mendoza in 2016, and he led public health through the pandemic.

A statement from Bello's office says the County is grateful for his service.

No reason was given for the resignation.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Marielena Velez de Brown has been named acting commissioner while the County searches for Mendoza's successor.
