NY Independent Redistricting Commission Approves District Map Proposal

(NYSIRC map)

New York's Independent Redistricting Commission has approved a final proposal for the state's congressional district map.

That proposal heads to the state legislature, where lawmakers can either accept it or come up with their own map.

If the legislature doesn't finalize the map by the end of the month, the June congressional primary could be moved to a date later in the summer.

The map approved today makes only minor changes to the existing districts.

The changes could help Democrats in two competitive districts and Republicans in another.
