Mayor Evans Calls For Probe into AMR Ambulance Incident

Mayor Malik Evans says the city is investigating after a city resident experiencing a medical crisis on November 30th was asked to get out of an AMR Ambulance and wait for the crew of another ambulance to help him.

Surveillance and body camera video then shows the man collapsing to the sidewalk.

He died just over two weeks later.

The man repeatedly told the crew and police he couldn't breathe.

Mayor Evans released video showing police helping the crew remove the man from the ambulance.

He appeared to get out of the ambulance voluntarily, collapsing after he sat on the sidewalk.

The man ended up face-down on the sidewalk as police stayed on scene.

There was a gap of about two minutes before police and paramedics became concerned.

The mayor says the city is conducting its own investigation through its attorneys, and he called for AMR to conduct its own investigation into what happened.

Rochester Police Chief David Smith has called for an immediate department investigation of the incident.
