Man Killed By RPD Officer Identified, Bodycam Footage Released

UPDATE: Rochester Police Chief David Smith says a gun being carried by a suspect when he was shot on Christmas Eve turned out to be a realistic fake.

In a news conference, Chief Smith says nonetheless, it appears the officer who shot and fatally wounded the suspect as he ran acted in accordance with state law.

The suspect only threw down the gun after he was shot and wounded.

He died after being brought to the hospital.

Chief Smith says the officer did not shoot a fleeing suspect.

Three investigations continue into the Christmas Eve shooting: one by police, one by the State Attorney General and one by the Police Accountability Board.

The deceased has now been identified as 46-year-old Todd Novick of Rochester.

Rochester police are investigating an officer-involved shooting on the city's west side.

Sources tell our Bob Lonsberry a suspect pulled a gun on an officer on Murray Street shortly after 9 this morning.

The officer then opened fire.

Rochester Police Captain Greg Bello has confirmed the suspect has died at Strong Hospital.

No other details about the shooting have been released.
