Rochester Native Confirmed as Chief of Naval Operations

A Rochester native is now the head of the United States Navy.

Rear Admiral Lisa Franchetti was confirmed today as President Biden's appointee to serve as the Chief of Naval Operations.

She is the first woman in the Navy's top job.

Franchetti was born in Rochester in 1964 and graduated from Pittsford Mendon High School in 1981.

She was serving as the vice chief of naval operations and has served as the commander of US Naval Forces Korea.

She has also commanded two carrier strike groups.
