Rochester police are investigating a shooting on the city's southwest side.
It happened after 1 a.m. on Genesee Street, near Cottage Street.
A 21-year-old man was seriously wounded and needed emergency surgery.
He is expected to survive.
Police say an unruly crowd from an unsanctioned bar got in the way of the investigation.
It's not clear if the victim had anything to do with the bar.
