Calling Hours Announced for Prominent Rochester Civil Rights Leader

UPDATE: Public calling hours have been scheduled for civil rights activist Reverend Lewis Stewart.

The calling hours are this Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon, at Barber AME Church on Meigs Street.

Funeral arrangements are pending for civil rights activist Reverend Lewis Stewart.

Stewart co-founded United Christian Leadership Ministry in 2013 and led the group until his retirement last year.

Much of his work focused on criminal justice reform and police-community relations.

He died Friday at age 77.

Mayor Malik Evans said in a statement that Stewart's "commitment to the eradication of social, economic, and racial inequities has made an everlasting impact."

The mayor also says the City will be forever grateful for his ministry.
