Judge Issues Stay in NYS Ethics Commission Case

A judge says the state's new independent ethics commission can continue to work for now.

An appellate court judge issued a stay on a ruling last month that found the Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government amounts to a fourth branch of government, which is not allowed without a constitutional amendment.

Former Governor Andrew Cuomo has been waging a legal war against the commission for its probe into his $5 million COVID book deal.

Cuomo had been accused of using state employees to work on the book during Cuomo's time in office.
