Seneca Falls Board OKs Landfill Expansion

The town board in Seneca Falls has delivered a blow to environmental activists who are trying to block the proposed expansion of the Seneca Meadows landfill.

The board approved a Memorandum of Understanding that sets new terms for the landfill, if it gets a state permit to expand and continue to operate through 2040.

The environmental group Seneca Lake Guardian says the board vote is a "nod of approval" for the expansion and doesn't reflect the wishes of the public.

The group is urging state regulators to deny the permit request.

The proposed expansion would add 47 acres to the landfill and raise it 70 feet.
