Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is backing bills that would provide billions of dollars in funding for disaster relief.
It comes months after catastrophic flooding hit Ontario County and the Hudson Valley and as severe storms and natural disasters become more common across the nation.
One of the bills would put 26-billion dollars toward federal disaster recovery programs while another would use 484-million-dollars to reimburse states for storm damage.
Other bills would provide funding to rebuild public transportation while streamlining food assistance in the wake of a disaster.
