Marijuana Sold at the State's First Licensed Dispensaries May Not Be Safe

An investigation by the New York Cannabis Insider at Syracuse dot com found the marijuana sold at the state's first licensed dispensaries may not be safe.

Popular strains sold at the stores were found to contain microbial levels 10-250 times higher than allowed under the state’s rules for medical marijuana.

A New Jersey cannabis testing company, True Labs for Cannabis, says the products may pose a serious health threat.

The Insider's investigation blames a state requirement that weed be grown outside has led to the high levels of bacteria, yeast and mold. And it found state-certified labs broke reporting rules for contaminants.

State regulators deny the findings are a significant health concern.
