Western New York is getting a new area code, starting next week.
The new 624 area code is coming to Erie, Niagara, Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties.
Instead of taking a piece out of the current 716 territory, the new area code is being added to the entire area. That means new phone customers in the region could have a different area code than their neighbors.
