Monroe County Executive Adam Bello says he does not support a City of Rochester plan to study converting Rochester Gas and Electric's assets into a Public Utility.
City Council earlier this week approved spending $500,000 to study possibly setting up a public takeover of the utility company, which is owned by Avangrid.
Bello says he doesn't support study a study and will not support putting county funding into it as the city is asking.
Bello says he's advocated for lower rates and better customer service at RG&E and has met directly with management and the CEO of Avangrid.
He says setting up a public utility would be an extremely complex business that is beyond the scope of county government and could have billions of dollars in implications for taxpayers.
