The state is reversing course and is repealing its COVID-19 vaccine mandate for health care workers.
Attorney for the state Jonathan Hitsous told judges about the decision in Rochester's federal court this morning, ahead of a scheduled appeals court hearing in a lawsuit fighting the mandate.
The state health department will have a public statement about the decision soon.
The state vaccine mandate took effect in September 2021 and led roughly 34,000 health care workers to either be fired or quit.
