RPD: Woman Pistol-Whipped Laundromat Clerk

A woman is facing assault and gun charges for allegedly pistol-whipping a clerk at a laundromat.

It happened last night on Hudson Avenue.

Police say Mahlaysia Johnson was angry when the clerk wouldn't refund money she put into a dryer that she broke.

Johnson hit the clerk with the gun and it went off, activating the ShotSpotter system.

Police stopped Johnson's car on Clifford Avenue, arrested her, recovered a gun, and turned over her child to a relative.

The charges also include reckless endangering and endangering a child.
