An Ogden man who admitted killing his step-father and getting rid of the body in a fire pit will serve 15 years in prison.

Lance Mitchel was initially charged with second-degree murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter last month in the death of Bill Mason in May 2021.

In court, he admitted snapping Mason's neck when he wouldn't let him see his mother when she was taken off life support in the hospital.

DNA from the remains in the fire pit were matched to Mason.

His sister Dawn was charged with evidence tampering and concealing a corpse in connection with Mason's killing, but pleaded guilty to a reduced charge last week, and was released on time served.
