The convicted Brighton ax murderer has died in prison.

James Krauseneck passed away from esophageal cancer at the age of 71.

Krauseneck was convicted of the 1982 ax murder of his wife Cathleen back in September, and sentenced to 25 years to life.

He was diagnosed with cancer while in prison, and had been moved from a maximum-security prison to one with a specialized medical facility.

Krauseneck maintained his innocence, and his attorney was appealing the verdict.
