UPDATE: Man Shot by Canandaigua Police Identified

UPDATE: Troopers have identified the man shot by Canandaigua officers yesterday afternoon.

They say 34-year-old Thomas Johnson of Canandaigua pointed what appeared to be a handgun at officers at the 7-Eleven gas station on South Main Street.

Johnson was airlifted to Strong Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

His weapon turned out to be an Airsoft pistol.

Johnson has been charged with menacing.

State police, the Ontario County D.A. and the state Attorney General's office are investigating the shooting.

Canandaigua police say they've shot a suspect this afternoon.

As first reported by Bob Lonsberry, it happened shortly before 2 o'clock on South Main Street.

Canandaigua police chief Matthew Nielsen says the man raised what looked like a gun at officers.

Those officers then opened fire.

The man was hit twice and has been airlifted to Strong Hospital.

There's no update on his condition.
