New Bill Ensures Access to Abortion Medication for SUNY and CUNY Students

The state Assembly has passed a bill it says will ensure access to abortion medication for SUNY and CUNY students.

It would require SUNY and CUNY schools to either have someone available to prescribe abortion pills on campus, or contract with a prescriber.

Lawmakers say the ongoing legal fight over mifepristons prompted them to draw up the bill.

Speaker Carl Heastie says it will give students access to care that will allow them to continue their educations.
