Monroe County Considering Ending Residency Requirements for Sheriffs

Monroe County officials are looking at ending a residency requirement for sheriff's deputies who patrol the county.

County Executive Adam Bello and Sheriff Todd Baxter are looking at boosting recruiting by attracting candidates from adjacent counties, who don't want to relocate.

Bello and Baxter say the number of recruits has dropped off over the past five years.

The proposal could be introduced in the County Legislature next week.
