There's a report that state Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie has offered Governor Hochul a compromise on changes to the bail reform law.
Politico New York reports Heastie proposed that judges would no longer have to give criminal defendants the “least restrictive” conditions ahead of their trials - at least for some crimes.
The offer reportedly came in a private meeting with the Governor and state Senate leadership.
Heastie has publicly opposed changes to the law. And another Albany insider has told The New York Post that Heastie would not be likely to flip flop on strongly held beliefs on the issue.
