Rochester police say the man shot and killed by officers during a foot chase yesterday had aimed a gun at them.
The man was known to police and was linked to two cases involving gunfire -- one Friday night on Monroe Avenue and one yesterday morning near Elmwood Avenue in Brighton.
The investigation connected the man to Milburn Street. He got away during a vehicle pursuit there yesterday morning, but Police Chief David Smith says he was spotted there again yesterday afternoon.
During the foot chase, the man allegedly aimed a shotgun at sheriff's deputies. Police say he ignored repeated orders to drop it, and deputies and city police officers opened fire -- killing him.
There is video of the foot chase.
The state attorney general's office investigates all cases of police use of deadly force. And Internal Affairs will look into whether any departmental policies were violated.
