Another Possible State Tax on Ammunition Being Considered

Members of the state Legislature are talking again about a new excise tax on the sale of ammunition.

Under the proposal from Albany-area Assemblywoman Pat Fahy, the tax could be two- to five cents per round, depending on the size of the bullet.

The goal of the tax is to reduce gun violence, and the proceeds from the tax could fund commmunity programs.

Opponents say the tax penalizes law-abiding citizens.

A similar bill died in committee last year.
