Newark Man Charged in 2021 Motel Homicide

Authorities in Wayne County say a Newark man has been charged with second degree murder and robbery for a death that took place at a motel in the Town of Arcadia.

Sheriff Robert Milby said deputies found 52-year-old Torrey Mathis dead in June of 2021 when they were called to do a welfare check.

Deputies arrested 48-year-old Michael Robinson for the murder earlier today.

The sheriff said the motive for the crime was robbery, and the two men probably knew each other.

Robinson is being held without bail and will be in court next week.
