Faculty Union Says State Must Address Inadequate Funding for SUNY Campuses

The union representing faculty at the state university campuses says the state must address years of inadequate state funding for SUNY.

At a legislative budget hearing yesterday, union head Frederick Kowal claimed lack of funding has hurt 19 of the campuses and public teaching hospitals.

The union says funding increases in the governor's proposed budget don't go far enough. The union is proposing a $160 million Financially Distressed Campus Fund, which would provide money to the campuses in financial jeopardy. And the union wants $110 million to help campuses to invest in high-demand programs.
