Labor Department Adopts Farm Worker Overtime Rules

The state labor department has formally adopted the controversial farm labor overtime regulations.

Starting in January, the threshold for time-and-a-half pay to kick-in for farm workers will drop from sixty hours in a week to fifty-six.

That threshold will drop by four hours every other year until it falls to 40 hours in 2032.

The state says the regulations ensure equity for farm workers.

Farm lobbyists say the change will place a new financial hardship on farm owners.
