Ontario County Clerk Dies

The Ontario County Sheriffs Office has confirmed the County Clerk is dead.

Matthew Hoose was found dead in a home in the Town of Canandaigua this morning.

It comes less than a week after the County Board of Supervisors voted "no confidence" in Hoose.

They said he had fallen severely behind in reports and payments to state agencies, and had ordered a forensic audit of 5 bank accounts he controlled solely.

From Ontario County officials:

It is with sympathy that Ontario County has confirmed that the County Clerk, Matthew Hoose, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 21, 2023. The County will have no further comment at this time.
