New York's tax commissioner says more people left the state in 2020 after the state raised taxes on high-income earners...but she can't say if that's cause-and-effect.
The acting commissioner, Amanda Hiller, , was asked about that at a legislative budget hearing.
She says more of the wealthy DID leave the state in 2020 during the COVID lockdowns.
But Hiller says she won't be ready to link migration from the Empire State to tax policy unless this year also shows a large number of people moving out.
