Five adults and one child were able to escape unharmed from a fire in an apartment house on Alexander Street this afternoon. Firefighters were called to the blaze early in the afternoon and quickly called a second alarm when they discovered fire had spread from the second floor to the attic. The home was heavily damaged and the Red Cross is assisting the residents. Investigation showed the cause of the fire was smoking on the porch.
