State Lawmakers OK Big Salary Increase

The bill to give a big pay raise to state lawmakers is now headed to Governor Hochul's desk.

State lawmakers in both houses approved a salary increase from $110,000 to $142,000, effective in the New Year.

The measure, however, would cap outside income at $35,000 a year, starting in 2025.

Their last raise was three years ago, and bumped their pay to the current level from just under $80,000.

The vote was 81-52 in the Assembly, and 33-23 in the Senate.
