Governor Hochul has made her pick to be the next head of the state's highest court.
Judge Hector LaSalle has been nominated to be the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals.
LaSalle has been the Presiding Judge of the Appellate Court in the New York City area , and has served in that department since 2014.
The state legislature still needs to confirm LaSalle.
If it happens, LaSalle would be the first Latino to serve as Chief Judge.
