Accused Zeldin Attacker to be Released Today

An Army veteran charged with attacking candidate for governor Lee Zeldin at a Perinton campaign event will be released from jail today.

David Jakubonis will be transferred to a VA Medical Center to undergo an alcohol and PTSD treatment program after a judge ruled he wasn't a threat to the public.

Video shows Jakubonis holding an object with pointed edges when he jumped on stage and lunged at Zeldin back in July.

Zeldin, an Army veteran himself who served in Iraq, issued a statement saying he was thankful for the judge's ruling and that Jakubonis is fortunate he's now getting the help he needs.
