State Lawmakers Reconsidering Support for Farm Worker Overtime Plan

Some Democrats in the state legislature are rethinking their support for requiring overtime pay for farm workers after 40 hours of work per week, instead of 60.

According to Spectrum News, some lawmakers are concerned that the plan to phase in the requirement would squeeze family farms that are already being hurt by inflation.

The lawmakers are discussing creating exceptions to the regulations for small farms.

The state will subsidize the overtime pay with tax credits. A comment period on the regulations will likely start later this month.
