Schools and Government Agencies Will Pay More Money For Employee Pensions

State and local government agencies and school districts will have to contribute more money next year for employee pensions.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli says the contribution rate will rise in April from 11.6 percent of payroll to 13.1 percent.

Rates will also rise slightly for police and fire departments.

DiNapoli says the pension fund’s performance in the last fiscal year was strong, but he says "recent domestic and global economic volatility demands caution.”

The fund showed negative returns in the first quarter of the current fiscal year.
